Who, what, why, when.......

Who...
Hi my name is Lucy, although originally from England I have been living in Ottawa, Canada's capital city for 7 years. I have been fortunate to travel to both coasts with work and the Rockies several times for summer mountaineering camps with the Ottawa section of the Alpine Club of Canada.

I fell in love with Canada pretty quickly and earlier this year became a Canadian citizen. When a good friend invited me to join her on a week long road trip to Vancouver Island I thought it would be a good way to see some more of the country especially the Prairies. I was planning to fly back to house-sit her place and work in Ottawa for the summer, then she suggested we would have room for my bike if I wanted to ride back!! The seed was planted.

What...
Cycling from Vancouver Island to Ottawa, definitely not by the shortest route, taking the opportunity to visit a number of people I haven't seen in a while and stopping where I feel like it. I shall be riding solo with a small trailer and taking the slow road back.

Why...
Because I can.... I am between jobs, houses, cars, all those things that make a 2 month cycle trip more difficult to pull off. I cycle but I would not describe myself as a cyclist. For three summers during university I worked as a postman, riding around delivering the mail and I loved it. I have always enjoyed any kind of biking and often biked to get around only learning to drive in my late 20's.

When...
Starting in July on Vancouver Island, taking in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Hoping to be back in Ottawa by early / mid September.

The blog
Friends have suggested I write a blog in the past but I didn't think I had a particularly interesting life and questioned who would want to read about my adventures. However if nothing else this blog will allow my parents to track my progress!! I will try my best to post every couple of days, power and wi-fi allowing and post some pics.
