Originally my plan was to take a more southern route from Swift Current but with the crosswinds coming from the south I couldn't bear the thought of heading that way. Then I was going to go to Moose Jaw and head south east to Weyburn and pick up the Red Coat Trail (Hwy 13). Then I decided maybe I would go through Regina!! I found an interesting guy through Warmshowers who had cycle toured all over the world and was happy for me to stay on Friday night, hence my desire to get to Regina. I knew it was going to be a long day so I was on the road early making it the 80km to Moose Jaw by lunchtime. The wind was blowing around but I was pretty determined that I was going to get to Regina however long it took. I wish I could have stayed longer in Moose Jaw it seemed like a nice place.
I rolled into Regina just before 6pm. Gord invited me in and we left my Bob trailer in the garage to get to know his. Gord introduced me to Astrid and Eric, a Dutch couple who had arrived a couple of hours earlier from the east, they are on a world bike tour, having left the Netherlands in April 2013. I just had time for a shower before a superb curry dinner cooked by Gord followed by ice cream for desert. We chatted until quite late and Astrid, Eric and myself were very glad to be camped out in the basement as a storm raged outside.
Gord seemed very happy that we were all going to stay in Regina for a day. I am so glad I did, it was great to spend time with these 3. We all had a slow start this morning but had plenty of time to chat about bike touring, Canada and traveling the world between running errands and checking out Regina. Astrid and Eric confirmed my suspicions about the wind, feeling like they had had the wind behind them for a few days (hence my headwinds!!). I thought Regina was a really nice city but found myself wobbling around on my bike without Bob.
