6 July - Bob's rest day and hills

Salt Spring Island 33km (without Bob!!)

The forecast hadn't been great and I could hear the rain when I woke up. Heather served up French toast, eggs and raspberries for breakfast and suggested I hang around for the day. I have to say I am hugely enjoying this style of bike touring, staying with friends, hot showers and clean towels, eating good food and having a chance to dry things out.

We headed to the beach in the rain for Daisy Mo's swim session and the weather started to clear so Heather suggested a bike tour of the island. I decided Bob deserved a day off so we set off without him, oh my gosh.... there were hills, lots of them (long ones, short ones, steep ones, mostly up with a few down) but riding without a trailer is soooo much fun. I know Heather from Ottawa, she sold me my first mountain bike and took me to my first mountain bike race and I really enjoyed riding with someone else. We went through Ganges and stopped at a cute cafe at Fernwood Point.
