31 August - Gary gets a good workout

Wawa to Montreal River 111km (4596km total).

Karin filled us up with a big breakfast and insisted we take sandwiches, fruit, cookies and more blueberry loaf to keep us going for the day!! She was an amazingly kind and generous spirit and read us this proverb at breakfast.

83km of the ride today was in Lake Superior Provincial Park and we stopped at all the popular sites; Old Woman Bay, Katherine Cove, Agawa Beach. They were pretty but overall it was not quite as stunning as people had made out. Maybe partly because of the weather, it didn't rain but it was overcast and grey all day, hence the photos don't do it justice.

Old Woman Bay.

Agawa Bay.

My legs were tired today, they have been for a few days and this area is hilly, every uphill I had to just put it in my granny ring (Gary) and spin. I realised it has been 2 weeks since I left Winnipeg and I have ridden 13 of the 14 days with just 1 day off and covered 1322km, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised!! I plan to take a day off in Sault Ste Marie.

I did stop and talk to a guy who was walking beside the road, he had a pretty big rucksack and his name was Boyd. He is walking across the country, it is taking him a while as he does about 25km a day and stops over the winter, he reckons he has seen about 40 cyclists this summer and also met Sebastien running.

We decided to push on to Montreal River for the night to get a bit closer to Sault Ste Marie. There was rain in the forecast and the campground had cabins so we took one of those and got very excited when it had a little kitchen and a deck with a beautiful lake view. We had been carrying a bunch of veggies to make dinner for a few days, Blair is vegetarian and he cooked up an amazing stirfry with quinoa. We sat down on the beach to watch the sun go down and met Ginny and her son Joel from Windsor with Lisa and Olivia from Michigan. They were fascinated by our trailers and came back to our cabin to take a look, then they invited us to have a campfire at their cabin. It was late and I was tired but we sat and chatted with them and I really enjoyed their company.
