11 July - Vancouver in my rear view mirror

Vancouver to Mission 64km

This morning I left Vancouver after spending a wonderful few days with my good friend Jen, her husband Jay and 9 month old son Martin. Vancouver was awesome as usual, so was Martin, I am not great with babies, honestly they scare me, however I have never met such a friendly, happy, smiley little boy. We strolled around their new neighborhood and enjoyed browsing the funky local shops, indulged in way too many sweet treats and went to the beach for a picnic. It was hard to leave and if I had a bucket list, living in Vancouver would be on it!!!

I was nervous about the ride out of the city but it was fairly easy and there were lots of bike lanes. The Lougheed Hwy (#7) had a very generous bike lane for the most part and there were no real hills, in fact I did not get anywhere near my granny gear all day. I didn't stop for any pictures, it was a hot day but to be honest I only really noticed it when stopped. I was afforded stunning views of Mt Baker (in Washington state) on the run into Mission, I was pleased that I had identified it correctly when I checked with the guy at the campground. The campground has a recreation room with wifi and power outlets as well as a large selection of old VHS tapes but I think I will pass on the movies, get to bed early and try and get a headstart on the heat tomorrow.

  1. Hope you made it to Osoyoos ok in this heat! We have been thinking of you lots - especially over these last few scorching hot days. We have been "swimming" in the pool a lot with Martin to stay cool ;)
